Araghchi accuses Europe of ‘double standards’ in meeting with Dutch foreign minister at the UN

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met his Dutch counterpart, Tom de Bruijn, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, where he sharply criticized what he called the “double standards” of European countries.

According to his Telegram channel, Araghchi pointed to Europe’s “silence and acquiescence” in the face of the “aggressive actions and crimes” committed by the U.S. and Israel against Iran.

“European countries cannot, on the one hand, claim to defend the rule of law and human rights, while on the other hand remain indifferent — or even support — flagrant military aggression by the U.S. and Israel against Iran,” he said, according to the statement.

For his part, Dutch minister de Bruijn stressed the importance of diplomacy and set out his country’s perspectives on the ongoing regional developments and interactions between Iran and Europe.

The meeting comes at a time when diplomacy in New York has intensified, with direct U.S.–Iran talks and numerous bilateral meetings of the Iranian delegation with European counterparts.
