“As If We Never Said Goodbye”: Arielle Jacobs Returns to the Stage After Serious Vocal Injury
Broadway actress and singer Arielle Jacobs will return to the stage for the first time after a serious vocal injury that required surgery and long months of recovery. She announced the news herself via an Instagram video, published on September 23, in which she openly recounts her battle with the injury.
The symbolic return will take place on September 28 at New York’s United Palace, where Jacobs will perform after a screening of Billy Wilder’s classic film “Sunset Boulevard” (1950). The evening is organized by the bilingual Broadway Collective, and the chosen song is the ballad “As If We Never Said Goodbye” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of the film, as reported by Playbill.
“This song is truly emotional for me… I had an exposed blood vessel, which meant the risk of re-injury every time I sang was 50%,” Jacobs said in a statement. “After a successful surgery and months of recovery, this is the first time I stand before the public — and it will be as if we never said goodbye.”
Also performing that evening will be Luis E. Mora and instrumentalist James Teal. Jacobs has appeared in well-known Broadway productions such as “Here Lies Love”, “In the Heights”, “Wicked” and “Aladdin”, and originated the role of Delilah in the new musical “Between the Lines”, which played Off-Broadway in 2022.
