Berisha: Backing the civic protest is the DP’s duty — ‘let’s do everything for the party’s renewal’

Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha declared that supporting the civic protest is a major duty of the DP and that the party must make every effort for its renewal, under conditions he describes as vital for the opposition force.

At a meeting of the political force’s leadership, Berisha stressed that the Assembly and recent forums, held under the “Renewal” motto, had produced as their main fruit the leadership elected by the Democrats’ vote.

He described this meeting as “an appeal, a wake-up call” to every member of the leadership to get closer to citizens, members and supporters.

“Nothing damages, nothing diminishes our strength as much as distance from our people. This is true at all times, but it is more true today than ever in the conditions in which we find ourselves,” Berisha said.

He underlined that it is vital for the DP to become functional and renewed, in order to confront with efficiency and endurance what he calls the “regime.”

Referring to the ongoing protests, the DP leader declared that the party must support “an epic protest in its character, which is dragging Edi Rama every night through the streets and squares of Tirana.”

According to him, many DP members and supporters are already participants and deserve recognition. He called on leaders to be present at the protest together with their voters and members, except in special cases for symbolic reasons.

Berisha assessed that Edi Rama “has no future” and that his fall is inevitable, but that the opposition must rise ever stronger.

He described the current situation as a start under favorable but also difficult conditions, demanding maximum contribution from everyone.
