Bessent to Meet Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in New York on Sunday, Ahead of Xi’s State Visit to Washington

Scott Bessent will meet Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng at JPMorgan Chase headquarters in New York on Sunday to discuss artificial intelligence security, trade and other economic issues, according to a person familiar with the planning who spoke on Saturday. The meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. local time (1430 GMT).

The meeting comes just days before President Donald Trump hosts Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House in Washington on Thursday and Friday, as part of a state visit.

JPMorgan is not involved in the meeting but has agreed to make its headquarters building available as the meeting venue, amid heightened security measures in Manhattan ahead of the United Nations General Assembly starting next week.

Bessent had invited JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon to attend a G20 finance leaders’ meeting organised by the U.S. Treasury in Asheville, North Carolina, where Dimon spoke about the prospects of private-sector growth.

Dimon is among the U.S. CEOs invited to the state dinner for Xi next week at the White House, according to U.S. officials, but he did not join the delegation of executives who accompanied Trump to Beijing in May, at the last meeting of the U.S. leader with Xi.
