‘Dogstar’: Daisy Hall’s New Play Has World Premiere at Hampstead Theatre — Full Cast Announced

Hampstead Theatre in London has announced the full cast of the world premiere of “Dogstar,” Daisy Hall’s new play, a black comedy of survival, faith and the forces that shape our lives, set aboard a whaling ship trapped in ice, where the crew is dropping one by one, a mutiny is being prepared and strange visions are spreading. The show will play on the theatre’s Downstairs stage from October 30 to December 5, directed by Lucy Morrison.

Alex Austin, known from “Blackout Songs” at the same theatre and from “Macbeth” at Lyric Hammersmith, will play Gorey. Justin Edwards, known from “The Ferryman” in the West End and Broadway as well as the television comedy “The Thick of It,” will play Babben, while Abdul Jalloh, who graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2026, will be Sam.

Hall, a finalist for the 2023 Women’s Prize for Playwriting, returns to Hampstead after the full-house success of her debut play “Bellringers” in 2024. “With Dogstar I was interested in writing a kind of fairy tale, but set in a very specific time and place,” she said. “I am so excited to be returning to Hampstead Theatre and working with Lucy Morrison and such a brilliant cast and creative team.”

Greg Ripley-Duggan, producer and executive director of Hampstead Theatre, said the theatre had commissioned her second play “very quickly” after “Bellringers,” describing Hall as a “very special talent.” Director Lucy Morrison also returns to Hampstead after the 2025 full-house hit “Personal Values” and “The Animal Kingdom.” She will be joined by designer Hannah Schmidt, lighting designer Holly Ellis and sound designer Anna Short.
