Fresh mint lemonade — summer’s refreshing drink
Introduction
Mint lemonade is the most refreshing drink on hot days — simple, natural and full of flavor. With a few ingredients and 10 minutes of time, you get a homemade drink far better than store-bought ones.
Ingredients (for 4 glasses)
- 4–5 fresh lemons (about 200 ml juice)
- 1 liter cold water (or sparkling water, as desired)
- 10 fresh mint leaves
- 3–4 tablespoons honey or sugar (to taste)
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and mint sprigs for serving
Preparation steps
- Squeeze the lemons and strain the juice to remove the seeds.
- In a large jug, mix the lemon juice with the honey (or sugar) until fully dissolved.
- Lightly crush the mint leaves by hand or with a wooden spoon to release their aroma, then add them to the jug.
- Add the cold water (or sparkling water) and stir well.
- Taste and adjust the sweetness or tartness to your liking.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or serve immediately with plenty of ice, lemon slices and mint sprigs.
Time and servings
Preparation 10 minutes; chilling in the refrigerator 30 minutes (optional). Makes: 4 glasses (about 1.2 liters).
Tip
For a more intense flavor, leave the lemonade in the refrigerator for 1–2 hours before serving. If using sparkling water, add it at the end, just before serving, so it doesn’t lose its fizz.
