General Staff: Russia has lost 1,522,440 troops in Ukraine since February 24, 2022 — 1,560 in the past day alone

According to the daily report, Russian losses also include 12,367 tanks, 25,387 armored combat vehicles, 152,553 vehicles and fuel tanks, 50,216 artillery systems, 2,152 multiple-launch rocket systems, 1,665 air defense systems, 442 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,723 ground drones, 35 ships and boats, as well as two submarines.

Ukraine’s General Staff has not disclosed its own losses during the full-scale invasion, citing operational secrecy. Independent reports from Western think tanks agree that Russian casualties significantly exceed Ukrainian ones: the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimates the ratio at “approximately 2.5:1 or 2:1”.

A January 2026 CSIS report estimated that Ukraine likely suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, of which between 100,000 and 140,000 are thought to have been killed in action. Although Ukrainian officials rarely disclose the figure, President Volodymyr Zelensky told France TV on February 4 that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action since the start of the full-scale war, in addition to many others missing in action.

The intensity of Russian drone attacks and fighting has made it extremely difficult for Ukraine to recover the bodies of fallen soldiers, needed for DNA confirmation.
