Humanitarian swim marathon in Dobrota: 10,000 euros raised for the psychiatric hospital
The third edition of the “Dobrota 2026” Humanitarian Swim Marathon closed with an extraordinary result: 10,000 euros were raised for the Dobrota Special Psychiatric Hospital, as Montenegro’s public broadcaster RTCG reports. Swimmers from the Kotor Triathlon Club, open-water swimmers and triathletes from Podgorica covered a distance of 8 kilometers in the Bay of Kotor, turning the race into a grand gesture of solidarity.
The marathon’s organizer, Vladimir Stevović, said the priority was not the sporting result but humanity and bringing people together around a common cause. According to RTCG’s reporting, the atmosphere during the race was festive, with many citizens cheering the swimmers from the shores of the bay.
Jovo Gjergjović, director of the Dobrota Special Psychiatric Hospital, thanked the organizers and all participants for their contribution. According to the public broadcaster, he stressed that the donation would serve to improve conditions for the hospital’s patients.
The marathon also had the support of the Montenegrin Army, which helped organize the race and ensure safety on the water. The youngest participant in this edition was Ilija Mushtur, who swam together with his younger brother Zhllko, while among the competitors was also Peggy Osterman, originally from the United States of America, who has lived in Montenegro for three years, RTCG writes.
With this third edition, the Dobrota humanitarian marathon is becoming an annual tradition that unites sport with charity and sends a strong message of solidarity to the entire community.
