Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Truman Capote in London: First Photos From “Tru” at the Menier Chocolate Factory

“Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson is bringing his acclaimed portrayal of Truman Capote to London. The first photos from the London production of Jay Presson Allen’s play “Tru” show the Tony Award-winning actor in the role of the legendary American writer at the Menier Chocolate Factory — where the show is currently in previews ahead of its official opening on September 27.

Ferguson played to packed houses in the spring with the immersive Off-Broadway version of the same production in New York, which opened on March 19. Tony-winning director Rob Ashford directs the production again, while two-time Tony nominee Charlotte d’Amboise returns to the stage — as she did in the March New York version.

“Tru” is built entirely from Capote’s own words and places the writer in December 1975, alone in his New York apartment, at the height of a crisis that cost him the elite social circle he adored. The play debuted on Broadway in December 1989 at the Booth Theatre, where Robert Morse won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for the role.

The London engagement is limited and will run through November 14, with the Menier Chocolate Factory production staged in association with Seaview, OHenry Productions and Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon.
