Kaja Kallas meets Vučić and Kurti in New York: ‘The time has come to move forward’

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas met separately on Tuesday in New York with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

In the meetings with the two leaders, Kallas called on Belgrade and Pristina to move forward with the normalization of relations and advance on the European path. “Progress in normalizing relations and advancing on the road to the EU must go hand in hand,” she wrote on X after the meetings.

Kallas stressed that the agreements reached through the EU-facilitated dialogue, especially the Ohrid Agreement, are binding for both sides. “Their implementation is not a favor to Brussels, but an obligation to their citizens and to the region that awaits normal relations,” her message said.

The EU High Representative added that Brussels will continue to be an impartial arbiter in the dialogue, but facilitation cannot replace political will in Belgrade and Pristina. She closed her message with the call: “The time has come to move forward.”

The meetings took place on the sidelines of the annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York, which Kallas is attending together with many world leaders.
