Levica back before the Constitutional Court: ruling on paid political advertising due today at 9:30
North Macedonia's Constitutional Court rules again today on Levica's initiatives over paid political advertising, after the failed vote in July. The party calls today "another test of political pluralism."
Skopje — North Macedonia’s Constitutional Court will convene today at 9:30 a.m. to discuss and rule again on the Levica party’s initiatives challenging the constitutionality of provisions of the Electoral Code that excluded the party from paid political advertising.
Today’s session comes after the court, on July 8, failed to muster the required majority of votes to reach a decision, leaving the cases open. The initiatives were filed by the Levica and Demokrati parties.
Levica has described today as “another test of political pluralism,” arguing that exclusion from paid political advertising undermines the equality of political parties in the electoral race.
The court is expected to re-examine the parties’ arguments and issue a final ruling on the constitutionality of the contested Electoral Code provisions, which determine who may use paid political advertising during election campaigns.
