Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Opening Gala: Hollywood Stars Descend on Los Angeles Ahead of Tuesday’s Public Opening

LOS ANGELES – On Saturday evening, September 19, 2026, George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson hosted the “Opening Night Celebration” at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park — the official inauguration of the building, just three days before it opens to the general public.

The gala, co-chaired by Julie Bell, Tom Cruise, Guillermo del Toro, Greta Gerwig, Sir Lewis Hamilton, Jensen Huang, JR, Steven Spielberg and Pharrell Williams, gathered some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Walking the red carpet were Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford accompanied by his wife Calista Flockhart, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Michael B. Jordan, Mark Hamill, Samuel L. Jackson and Hayden Christensen.

Also in attendance were directors Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Christopher Nolan, Peter Jackson, Spike Lee, Ron Howard, Jon Favreau, Denis Villeneuve, Greta Gerwig and Jon M. Chu, as well as music and television stars such as Pharrell Williams, Queen Latifah, Cynthia Erivo, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sofía Vergara, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria and Tyler Perry — and former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

The museum opens its doors to the general public on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. The 300,000-square-foot building, designed by architect Ma Yansong of MAD Studio, sits on a 13-acre campus and houses more than 30 galleries, two cinemas and a collection of over 40,000 works — from Frida Kahlo and Norman Rockwell to Banksy and Diego Rivera — alongside Lucas’ complete archive, spanning “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones.”

The museum’s mission is to celebrate the universal tradition of visual storytelling.
