Maximum fine for Mike Matheson after collision with Ridly Greig
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson has been fined $5,000, the maximum amount allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for an altercation involving Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig.
As the NHL reports, the Department of Player Safety announced that the punishment related to an incident during preseason game No. 65 in Montreal on Saturday, September 26.
The incident occurred at 10:43 of the second period; Matheson received a minor penalty for the collision. The fine money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund, and the NHL’s announcement stresses that the punishment was imposed in accordance with the relevant rules.
