MoMA opens its first exhibition devoted entirely to information design: «Full Disclosure: The Edge of Information Design»

«The Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) opened yesterday its first exhibition devoted entirely to information design, titled “Full Disclosure: The Edge of Information Design”, as MoMA announces in its official press release. The exhibition presents 30 works of digital and analog information design, including six newly acquired by the museum, and will remain open in the street-level gallery — with free public admission — through June 13, 2027.

The exhibition is curated by Paola Antonelli, senior curator in the Department of Architecture and Design and director of Research and Development, together with Jules Bernstein and Forrest Pelsue. “As data has become a defining feature of contemporary life, its visualization has evolved into one of the most important design fields of our time,” Antonelli said, adding that information designers are “reporters and translators”, offering clear, sourced and explanatory visual readings that leave room for interpretation — even for imagination.

Among the exhibited works, a highlight is “Calculating Empires: A Genealogy of Technology and Power Since 1500” (2023) by Kate Crawford and Vladan Joler, which exists both in digital form and as a large-scale installation, as well as the interactive features of the “New York Times”, “Why Notre Dame Was a Tinderbox” (2019) and “What the Tulsa Race Massacre Destroyed” (2021), acquired by the museum in 2025. Also on view is “The Seizure of the Iuventa” (2018) by Forensic Architecture and Forensic Oceanography, a detailed reconstruction of the seizure of the humanitarian ship in the Mediterranean, along with the projects “Synthetic Memories” and “Two Sides of the Same Coin” (2025).

According to the press release, although often thought of as a product of the digital age, information design has a rich analog history — from William Playfair’s bar chart (1786) and John Snow’s map of the London cholera epidemic (1854) to W.E.B. Du Bois’s 1900 diagrams. The exhibition aims to let visitors “use design as a lens through which they can assess and navigate the fragile ecosystem of truth and trust” of our days.
