Novak Djokovic receives ovation at Arena ahead of Zvezda’s EuroLeague tip-off

On Thursday evening, September 24, the Belgrade Arena had a special guest: Novak Djokovic attended the opening game of the new EuroLeague basketball season between Crvena zvezda and Žalgiris Kaunas.

Before the game tipped off, the Arena crowd greeted the Serbian tennis player with long ovations and cheers. Alongside him was his father, Srđan Djokovic.

Zvezda starts the new season with many changes: on the bench has come coach Ibon Navarro, former coach of Unicaja, while the squad has been reinforced with names such as Nika Vajler-Baba, Kris Xhons, Xhonatan Motli and Patrik Boldvin. Fan interest is high — the club has sold around 12,000 season tickets.

The first opponent is Zalgiris, traditionally uncomfortable for the red-and-whites: in the last five EuroLeague duels, Zvezda has won only once.
