Russian drone attack on Kyiv: one killed and 12 injured after fuel stations targeted
Russian forces attacked Kyiv with drones on Tuesday morning, killing one person and injuring at least 12 others, the Ukrainian capital’s authorities announced. This is a developing story, with the toll being updated.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported at 8:39 a.m. local time that a Russian drone had been downed at a fuel station in the Holosiivskyi district. Another fuel station, in the Darnytskyi district, was hit at around 6 a.m., according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. One person seriously injured in this attack was hospitalized in critical condition and later died of the wounds sustained.
By 10 a.m., seven people were injured, two of them seriously. By 5 p.m., six of the injured remained hospitalized. In the Solomianskyi district, where a non-residential building was damaged, six people were injured, while in the Obolonskyi district warehouses were hit, according to Klitschko.
The attack also damaged digital infrastructure: the BeMobile company’s data center was damaged and the website of the National Paralympic Committee of Ukraine was temporarily unreachable, while the company UCloud confirmed that its data center in Kyiv had been affected by the attack.
At around 3 p.m., Kyiv entered its fourth air raid alarm of the day; drone debris was reported in at least three districts, including Solomianskyi and Holosiivskyi.
Klitschko had stated on September 11 that city authorities lack the resources to build shelters at every fuel station and that Kyiv lacks the means needed to intercept Russian drones and missiles; defending fuel stations, he said, is a “complicated” issue of air defense. The September 10 attack was the first time Russian forces targeted a fuel station in Kyiv, in an expanding campaign that is disrupting fuel distribution and hitting both civilians and military personnel.
