Russian drone strikes 2 km from Dorohusk border crossing with Poland; air alert in Lublin region
A Russian jet-powered drone struck Ukrainian territory about 2 kilometers from the Dorohusk border crossing with Poland on Monday evening, September 28, 2026, during a fresh wave of Russian attacks on western Ukraine. Polish airspace was not violated, Polish authorities confirm.
The blast wave damaged the border post building on the Ukrainian side of the crossing, as the Australian agency AAP reports, but there were no reports of injuries or deaths. The incident was confirmed by Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, while the head of Ukraine’s Volyn region administration, Roman Romaniuk, said there were no casualties.
During the Russian attacks on western Ukraine, the Polish military command issued an air alert in the Lublin region of southeastern Poland. The alert was lifted after about 15 minutes, once Polish forces verified that no Russian drone had entered the country’s airspace.
The incident follows two weeks of repeated drone attacks near the Dorohusk–Yahodyn border crossing, including the attack on the Kyiv–Warsaw passenger train on September 13 and a drone falling near residential homes in Poland. The Polish government has accused Russia of deliberately escalating tensions on NATO’s eastern border.
