Russian strike hits “Stolichny” market near Kyiv: two killed and four wounded
A Russian strike hit the “Stolichny” wholesale food market outside Kyiv on September 27, leaving two dead and four wounded, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced via Telegram, as The Kyiv Independent reports. The strike caused a fire at the market, while footage from the scene shows bodies and cars in flames in its parking lot.
Air defense was active over central Kyiv during the night, with explosions heard across the city. According to Klitschko, the multiple strikes on the capital wounded nine people; six of them were hospitalized, including a child.
A Russian drone was shot down by air defense and crashed in the Podil district, according to witnesses from The Kyiv Independent staff. Falling debris caused a fire in the Podilskyi district, while debris also fell in an open area and on a non-residential building in the Dnipro district — where there are preliminary reports of casualties — as well as near a shop in the Darnitsky district.
In the middle of the attack, police stopped trains departing from stations and evacuated passengers to underground shelters.
The strike marks the fourth consecutive night of Russian strikes on Kyiv. On the night of September 26–27 alone, Russian strikes killed one person and wounded at least five in the capital, while across Ukraine the toll that night was 14 killed and at least 57 wounded.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that last week Russia launched over 2,200 attack drones, about 1,650 aerial bombs and 38 missiles of various types, many of them ballistic.
The event is still developing and the casualty toll may change.
