Russian strikes kill three in Ukraine as drones hit Kyiv neighborhoods
At least three people were killed Sunday by Russian strikes in Ukraine, as Reuters reports, citing local officials.
In the northern city of Sumy, three guided bombs struck near a family support center, killing two people, regional governor Oleh Hryhorov wrote on Telegram. Russia has long said it intends to turn areas of the Sumy region into a “buffer zone.”
In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city in the northeast, a drone hit a car and killed the driver, according to prosecutors. Meanwhile in Kyiv, mayor Vitali Klitschko said a drone struck a multi-story residential building, causing a fire in an eastern suburb of the city and injuring one person. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, he said.
Other drones also struck areas near a kindergarten and a playground in two neighborhoods, without causing casualties, according to Klitschko. Russian forces in recent weeks have launched almost nonstop strikes throughout the day, not only at night, as Ukrainian officials have emphasized. Both sides deny targeting civilians.
