Second session of the 25th EU–North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee, today in Parliament

The second working session of the 25th meeting of the EU–North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee is being held today at the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia; it began work yesterday and lasts two days, September 24 and 25, 2026.

A day earlier, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi hosted the MEPs participating in the Committee’s work. In the absence of Croatian MEP Karlo Ressler, who co-chairs the Committee together with Macedonian MP Ivanka Vasilevska, the European Parliament delegation was led by Bulgarian MEP Ivaylo Valchev. Part of the seven-MEP delegation is also Thomas Waitz, the European Parliament’s rapporteur for North Macedonia.

The meeting discussed the reform agenda, with a focus on public administration and judiciary reforms, as well as regional and transport connectivity. The MEPs showed interest in the processes underway in Parliament to increase transparency, cooperation with the civil sector and opening Parliament to citizens — for which civil society representatives in the country give positive assessments.

Speaker Gashi emphasized that in recent years, with the support of international friends, significant progress has been made in the transparency and openness of Parliament. He wished the participants successful and productive work, expressing confidence that through constructive dialogue all challenges can be overcome.

The joint position from the meeting was that work must continue together to strengthen mutual trust, especially among citizens, because this is key during every country’s EU integration journey.
