Six Bronze Sculptures Stolen From the Peter Gehring Museum in Munich, Loss Over 100 Thousand Euros

Six bronze sculptures by German artist Peter Gehring (1944–2001), architect, visual artist and musician, were stolen from the garden of “Museum Peter Gehring” in Munich’s Untermenzing-Allach district. The total value of the stolen works exceeds 100 thousand euros, causing a heavy loss to Gehring’s artistic legacy.

The theft was discovered on Sunday, September 13, 2026, around 10:00 a.m., by the late artist’s wife. A day earlier, on Saturday, September 12, the museum had been open to the public on the occasion of “Tag des Denkmals” (Heritage Day), when many visitors had seen the house and the sculptures placed in the garden up close.

According to Munich police, the unknown perpetrators entered the garden through a garden gate in the time interval between 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Due to the weight and dimensions of the sculptures, investigators believe a vehicle was used to transport them.

Each of the sculptures is worth around 20 thousand euros, according to the police spokesperson. The investigation into the case has been taken over by Munich Police’s Commissariat 52.

Police appeal to all citizens who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area of Waldhornstraße, Im Eichgehölz and Schlehbuschstraße (Untermenzing-Allach) during the period in question to come forward as witnesses.
