Tobacco Smuggling from Albania: Border Police Identify 28-Year-Old from Zecan Who Abandoned His Plateless Golf and Fled into the Forest

The Zecan border police have identified I.K. (28) as the driver of a “VW Golf II” without license plates, who on September 18 in the village of Šarova Topola, in the Lake Shkodra area, was transporting cut tobacco. According to police, the driver disobeyed the border patrol’s order to stop and, during the chase, threw the tobacco onto the road and then fled.

The plateless car was later found hidden in a dense forest, off a macadam road. Near the vehicle, police found 13 large black PVC bags with 371 smaller white paper packs of 0.5 kilograms each — a total of 185.5 kilograms of cut tobacco.

The value of the seized tobacco is estimated at around €13,000. According to police, the tobacco had previously been smuggled from Albania for illegal sale on Montenegrin territory.

By order of the state prosecutor, criminal charges were filed against I.K. (28) on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of smuggling. Investigations to fully clarify the case continue.
