Two key fuel-price decisions today: government weighs extending reduced diesel VAT as regulator sets new prices
As MKinformer reports, today is a decisive day for fuel prices in North Macedonia: the government must decide whether or not to extend the reduced 10 percent VAT measure for diesel, while the Energy Regulatory Commission (RKE) is expected in the afternoon to announce new maximum fuel prices, valid for the next seven days.
The reduced-VAT measure began on September 15 to ease pressure on diesel prices, and according to MKinformer’s reporting, the period for which it was set expires exactly today, September 28. This means the government must decide within the day whether the measure continues or ends.
Energy Minister Sanja Bozhinovska has said the government is closely monitoring the situation and that the fiscal consequences of a possible extension of the measure are being considered. Deputy Economy Minister Marjan Risteski, meanwhile, stressed that with the reduced VAT citizens were saving up to 350,000 euros per day.
According to MKinformer, the current prices valid until the new price list is announced are: diesel at 104.5 denars per liter, Eurosuper BS-95 at 99 denars and Eurosuper BS-98 at 101 denars. The new maximum prices RKE announces in the afternoon will apply for the next seven days.
