U.S. Embassy Honors Afrim Bunjaku, Demands Accountability for Banjska

PRISHTINA – The United States Embassy in Prishtina has honored Kosovo Police officer Afrim Bunjaku, who lost his life in the line of duty during the armed attack in Banjska, Zvecan, in September 2023.

In a social media post, the Embassy said it joins Kosovo in honoring Bunjaku, adding: “We reiterate our call for the perpetrators to be held accountable.”

Afrim Bunjaku was killed on September 24, 2023, in Banjska, in clashes with an armed Serb group that had attacked the Kosovo Police. For his sacrifice, he was posthumously declared a “Hero of Kosovo”.

The Banjska attack was described as one of the gravest security incidents in northern Kosovo in recent years, sparking strong international reactions and continued demands for justice and accountability.

The honoring of Bunjaku comes on the eve of the anniversary of his killing, as Kosovo’s institutions and international partners continue to demand that those responsible for the attack face justice.
