U.S. proposes Ukraine–Russia trilateral meeting in UAE, Zelensky says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that the United States has proposed a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia and the United States, which could take place in the United Arab Emirates.

“I believe this is an important proposal. It could take place in the United Arab Emirates,” Zelensky said at a press conference on Thursday, adding that “the Americans would like a trilateral meeting with Ukraine, Russia and the United States,” Reuters reported.

He said that on Wednesday he discussed the possibility of a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, and that the details of the meeting would be discussed later between the national security advisers of both countries.

Zelensky said that such meetings are important as part of efforts to end the war with Russia.

“We need such a meeting at the leadership level. The Ukrainian side is ready. What is missing is Russia’s readiness,” he said.

Trump has expressed frustration with both Moscow and Kyiv over the failure to reach a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine.

After meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump said the war could be won by Ukraine.
