Ukraine strikes deep inside Russia: Perm refinery about 1,500 km from the border ablaze, Iskra electronics factory in Ulyanovsk also hit

Ukrainian forces struck overnight on September 25 a Russian oil refinery in the city of Perm, about 1,500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, as well as an electronic-components factory in Ulyanovsk. The news was reported by The Kyiv Independent, citing monitoring channels, while Russian authorities have not yet commented on the attacks.

The Perm refinery was engulfed in flames after the attack, according to eyewitnesses cited by the Telegram channel Exilenova Plus. It is one of Russia’s largest refineries, with a capacity of about 226,000 barrels of oil per day, operated by the giant Lukoil.

Another target of the attack was the “Iskra” electronics factory in Ulyanovsk, which produces components for communications and radio technology.

Explosions were also reported in the city of Voronezh, where Russian air defense was activated. It is still unclear whether other targets were damaged.

The Kyiv Independent notes that it could not independently verify the details of the attacks and that the article is marked as a “developing story.”

The attacks follow a sustained campaign of Ukrainian drones against Russian energy infrastructure. On the night of September 24 alone, oil depots in Rostov and Krasnodar were hit, while on September 23 the area near the refinery in Ufa, Bashkortostan, about 1,200 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, was attacked.
