Violent Storm in Northwestern Greece: Lightning Kills 88 Sheep on Mount Peristeri, Tornado Damages Stables

Severe bad weather struck parts of northwestern Greece on Wednesday, causing extensive damage in the mountainous areas of Epirus. Lightning, torrential rain and strong winds hit Mount Peristeri (Lakmos) in particular, where the toll on livestock was tragic.

According to Greek media reports, 88 sheep lost their lives after being struck by lightning on the slopes of Mount Peristeri. Local farmers speak of an unprecedented storm that struck the flocks on pastures within a very short time, leaving them no chance of escape.

In the same area, a tornado also hit livestock facilities, causing considerable material damage to stables and other auxiliary structures. Damage was also recorded on local roads and infrastructure, while emergency teams are assessing the full scale of the damage.

Meteorologists warn that the wave of bad weather may continue in the coming hours, while local authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary movement in the affected areas.
