Women in film wear Chanel creations at annual “Through Her Lens” luncheon

Chanel’s annual “Through Her Lens” luncheon, in its 11th edition, opened the fall season with a tribute to feminist activist Gloria Steinem. Jane Rosenthal, producer and co-founder of Tribeca Enterprises, praised Steinem’s impact and urged continued bold and committed advocacy for women’s rights.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the event organized by the Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program was held at Locanda Verde restaurant in Manhattan and drew well-known Hollywood figures, including Halle Berry, Regina King, H.E.R., Riley Keough, Misty Copeland, Rosanna Arquette, Emmy Rossum, Michelle Monaghan, Rosie Perez, Chloe Fineman, Autumn Durald Arkapaw and Patty Jenkins. In a surprise moment, Robert De Niro took the stage to sing “Happy Birthday” to Rosenthal on her 70th birthday.

The luncheon also marked the launch of a three-day workshop, in which a selected group of creatives take part in mentoring sessions on script development, directing, music composition and costume design. The winning team will receive full funding for a short film, while four other teams will receive development grants. Rosenthal noted that over the past 11 years they have supported more than 100 filmmakers and around 50 films, stressing that the problem is not talent but lack of access.

The event underscored the commitment of Chanel and Tribeca to empowering women in cinema and creating real opportunities for new female auteurs. As Harper’s Bazaar reports, the “Through Her Lens” initiative continues to offer practical and financial support for women’s film projects.
