Zelenskyy: new sanctions on Russia could take effect in October
New sanctions packages on Russia, targeting financial schemes, suppliers of components and equipment used by the Russian arms industry, as well as companies and individuals involved in the production of Russian ballistic missiles, could take effect as early as October, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday evening, as Radio Liberty reports.
The goal of these measures, according to Zelenskyy, is to increase pressure on Moscow to push Russia toward genuine diplomacy.
The Ukrainian president stated that since yesterday Russia has used 277 attack drones of various types against Ukraine, including 155 jet-powered drones. Civilian objects were hit, including kindergartens, schools, a residential building and warehouses, while he described the attacks on civilian targets as terrorism.
Zelenskyy called on Ukraine’s partners to increase pressure on Moscow, stressed the need for a principled stance from the G7 and G20 groups, and demanded the full implementation of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham’s sanctions and tariffs bill.
