After the Hague Verdict, Hoti Calls for Urgent Assembly Session and a Resolution

LDK deputy Avdullah Hoti has called for an urgent session of the Kosovo Assembly to debate the first-instance verdict of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

In a reaction published on Monday, Hoti said that despite the protests taking place in Prishtina following the verdict, the Assembly has still not convened to express the institutional position of Kosovo’s institutions.

“With full respect for the independence of the judicial system, the Kosovo Assembly and the Government must have an institutional position on this verdict, which is of first instance and, therefore, not final,” Hoti wrote.

He proposed that the Assembly adopt a new resolution on Kosovo’s state engagement during the second-instance review of the case.

According to Hoti, institutions must make clear that the KLA’s and the Kosovo people’s war for freedom must not be criminalized.

“Above all, the Assembly must make it clear: no one can criminalize the Kosovo people’s war to defend their doorstep and for freedom,” he stated.

Hoti also called on the Government to engage diplomatically with international allies that supported the establishment of the Specialist Chambers.

“The Government must fully mobilize diplomatically with the international allies that sought and supported the establishment of the Specialist Chambers, so that the second-instance review is comprehensive and fully respects the standards of justice,” Hoti wrote.

Referring to the protests in Prishtina, Hoti said citizens are expressing their position and institutions must act in line with their responsibilities.

“The people of Kosovo are not silent. They are protesting day and night in the Prishtina square. Nor should the institutions that have the mandate to care for the legality and constitutionality of every act issued IN THE NAME OF THE PEOPLE OF KOSOVO remain silent,” he said.

Finally, Hoti called for the Assembly to convene urgently and demand action from the Government.

“The Assembly must convene urgently and oblige the Government to act. The state of Kosovo must speak clearly and with one voice in defense of the dignity of the liberation war and of Kosovo’s state interest, while respecting the independence of the justice bodies,” Hoti concluded. /Telegrafi/
