Amazon seeks to pass around $8 billion in Nvidia chips to investors, FT reports
October 2, 2026 – Amazon is seeking to pass around $8 billion in advanced Nvidia chips to investors through a new investment structure, aiming to strengthen its balance sheet, the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter, according to Reuters’ reporting.
Demand for computing capacity for artificial intelligence is growing at an unprecedented pace, and Nvidia’s chips remain the main engine of this global momentum. Technology giants are investing billions of dollars in the infrastructure needed to keep pace, while simultaneously seeking new financing models to cope with rising costs.
Signs of tension in the market are becoming increasingly visible: cloud companies such as Nebius recently raised rental prices for Nvidia chips — a signal reported in September that demand is outstripping available supply.
In the same vein, Broadcom recently gave Anthropic a financing line of up to $42 billion for artificial intelligence chips, showing how the big players are seeking new ways to secure computing capacity.
Amazon’s move, reported by the Financial Times and cited by Reuters, appears to go in the same direction: passing part of the financial burden to investors, to free up the company’s balance sheet, while the race for AI capacity continues to escalate.
