NBCUniversal cuts jobs in its global streaming technology division

NBCUniversal, the media unit of U.S. giant Comcast, has begun cutting jobs in its global streaming technology organisation, as the Reuters news agency reports.

According to Reuters, reporting on Thursday (October 1, 2026, 22:39 UTC), the number of employees affected will be determined after consultations with staff. A source familiar with the matter told the agency that most of the cuts will be concentrated at Sky, Comcast’s European media arm, while some NBCUniversal employees in the United States will also be affected.

In a statement, NBCUniversal said it is proposing changes to its “Global Streaming Technology” organisation, aiming to ensure the right structure and resources to support the company’s future growth.

As Reuters reports, the layoffs come as major media companies try to improve the profit margins of their streaming operations, after years of heavy investment in technology and content.
