Araghchi rejects London’s accusations over Iran’s role in the incident near RAF Fairford base: “You are barking up the wrong tree”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has rejected Britain’s accusations that Tehran played any role in the suspected terrorist incident near the RAF Fairford air base, as Al Jazeera reports.
In a post on the X platform, Araghchi responded to the statement of British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who said his government believes Iran “played a role” in the incident. “I can confirm Iran’s conviction that the release of the alleged terrorists working for foreign states says it all. You are barking up the wrong tree,” the Iranian diplomacy chief wrote, referring to the British police’s release of the five suspects arrested near the base.
The diplomatic clash comes after Burnham’s statement that there are “strong indications” of Iranian involvement in the incident near RAF Fairford, the base also used by the U.S. military. British police, meanwhile, defended the release of the suspects, announcing that no explosives were found in the seized vans and softening the alarm, contrary to the initial narrative.
The new London–Tehran tension marks another expansion of the diplomatic fallout of the seven-month U.S.–Iran war, at a time when Britain is deepening its involvement in the conflict, after approving the Saudi request for defensive air supply.
