Trump: More details soon on the release of the 5 suspects in the plot against the RAF Fairford base
U.S. President Donald Trump said more information would come out later in the day on why British authorities released the individuals arrested in the alleged plot against a British air base used by U.S. forces for strikes on Iran, as Al Jazeera reports.
British police released on bail the five men arrested on Monday on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offenses near the RAF Fairford base in western England. No explosives were found in the vans seized near the base — only gasoline, according to police reports.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham declared there are “strong indications” that Iran played a role in the incident — an accusation Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected, accusing London of wrongful blame.
The RAF Fairford base hosts U.S. forces used in the air campaign against Iran, and the incident has heightened tension between London and Tehran at the peak of diplomatic efforts to end the war.
