Trump on Iran: “Maybe we will destroy them” — the war “will end very soon, one way or another”

U.S. President Donald Trump warned on Wednesday evening that the U.S. war with Iran “will end very soon, one way or another”, leaving open even the possibility of Tehran’s military destruction, as Al Jazeera reports.

Asked by reporters in the Oval Office about a possible deal with Iran, Trump replied: “Maybe we will destroy them. You have to make that decision. We destroy them, we make a deal, but the time is coming.”

The statement comes as Tehran and Washington are exchanging proposals through intermediaries: Iran offered the U.S. a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds — a proposal Trump rejected as “unacceptable” — while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Tehran has received the official U.S. response through intermediaries.

At the same meeting with reporters, Trump also declared that “more information will come out” during the day about the conditional release of the five suspects arrested in Britain over an alleged plot against the RAF Fairford base, where U.S. forces used in the strikes on Iran are stationed.
