Balla at the SAPC meeting: We hope the Appeals ruling on the KLA leaders will be fair and free of political influence

Socialist Party parliamentary group leader Taulant Balla, speaking at the 22nd meeting of the EU–Albania Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee, touched on the latest developments in Kosovo, the European integration process, the work of Parliament and the Territorial Administrative Reform.

Referring to Parliament’s joint stance on developments in Kosovo, Balla stressed that justice for the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army must be impartial and free of political influence.

“We very much hope that the decision at the Court of Appeals will be a fair decision,” he stated.

In his speech, Balla rejected claims that Parliament passes tailor-made laws, stressing that any party with claims may turn to the justice institutions. He also defended the Mountains Package Law, calling it an important instrument for developing agrotourism and the economy in the country’s mountainous areas.

The SP parliamentary group leader also praised the fact that the opposition voted for one of the laws aligning with European Union legislation, expressing hope that cooperation would continue in upcoming parliamentary sessions on the package of integration laws.

On the Territorial Administrative Reform, Balla clarified that the special committee’s mandate has ended and that the procedure has now moved to the parliamentary review phase.

According to him, the reform aims to reorganise administrative units from 61 to 46, preserving units with national minority composition and with the main objective of improving services for citizens.

Balla described the special committee as a model of cooperation between political parties, stressing that the work done so far will serve as a basis for continuing the process in the relevant parliamentary committees.
