David Pastrnak named Boston Bruins captain, succeeding Brad Marchand
David Pastrnak has been named captain of the Boston Bruins. The 30-year-old winger, selected 25th overall in the 2014 draft, becomes the 28th captain in club history, after 12 years with the organization and 933 career points (420 goals and 513 assists).
As the NHL reports, Brad Marchand had worn the captain’s “C” since Sept. 20, 2023, but the position opened up after Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers on March 7, ahead of the trade deadline.
Pastrnak joins a distinguished series of former Bruins captains, including 16 Hockey Hall of Fame members and nine players whose numbers have been retired by the club. Patrice Bergeron will join that list when his No. 37 is retired in December.
According to the NHL, the announcement was also amplified on the club’s social media, while staff and fans expressed expectations that Pastrnak will lead the team into the organization’s new chapter.
