Davis Cup: Serbia Beats Lithuania 3-0 in Niš to Secure Elite Status

NIŠ – Serbia’s tennis team secured its Davis Cup elite status on Sunday, defeating Lithuania 3-0 in Niš in the World Group 1 tie.

The decisive third point came from the doubles pair of Miomir Kecmanović / Stefan Latinović. Debutant Latinović, alongside Kecmanović, triumphed 2-1 in sets (7:6, 3:6, 6:3) over the Lithuanian duo Edas Butvilas / Vilius Gaubas, giving Serbia the unassailable victory.

Earlier, on Saturday, Kecmanović had beaten Butvilas 7:5, 1:6, 7:5, while Hamad Međedović won 6:4, 6:4 against Gaubas, putting Serbia 2-0 ahead before the doubles.

With the 3-0 result, one singles match remains to be played, which no longer has any bearing on the outcome of the tie.

With this convincing win, Serbia keeps its place in the elite of the most prestigious team competition in tennis, the Davis Cup, and continues its journey among the world’s best teams.
