Focus – Estonia: Russian special forces carrying out acts of sabotage
TALLINN, 28 September /ATSH – AA/ – Estonian Defence Minister Martin Herem has spoken about ongoing acts of sabotage by Russia and pledged continued support for Ukraine. Stressing Estonia’s and the EU’s unwavering support for Ukraine, he said “Russian special forces are carrying out acts of sabotage.”
“As far as Estonia is concerned, the most important thing at the moment is to support Ukraine, as the EU, bilaterally and using frozen assets,” Herem said, adding that the decision must be taken “despite the fact that the Russian foreign minister has threatened to punish us for this.”
The Estonian minister’s statements came ahead of the meeting of EU defence ministers in Brussels. Today, EU defence ministers gathered to discuss the bloc’s response to hybrid attacks, including a proposed emergency protocol that would be activated in response to any threat against member states.
The meeting also addressed European defence readiness, support for Ukraine and the security situation in the Middle East.
