FOCUS – WEF: Albania 25th in the World for Gender Equality

Albania’s major improvement in the index is attributed mainly to the increased presence of women in political institutions.

Albania is rated highly for the representation of women in ministerial positions and in parliament, ranking among the leading positions in the region and beyond.

The increased role of women in politics has had a positive chain effect, bringing a higher number of women in senior leadership roles in Albania’s labor market.

However, as in many other countries, women’s overall participation in the workforce remains an area that requires continuous attention to avoid stagnation.

One of Albania’s highest results is in economic participation and opportunities, where the country has closed 79.9% of the gap and ranks 12th in the world.

Albania ranks first in the world for wage equality for similar work and for the representation of women in professional and technical professions.

Other INSTAT data show that in recent years women in leadership positions have been paid more than men.

In 2025 women were paid 232 thousand lekë compared to 214 thousand lekë for men, i.e. about 8% more.

For senior civil servants and executive directors, women were paid 126 thousand lekë in 2025, or 9% more than men.

According to the WEF report, in education the gap is closed at 96.2%, while in health and survival at 96.5%.

The result for women in parliament is 52.2%, while for women in ministerial positions 85.7%. /a.jor./
