Gonxhja: Work begins on a historic stage in the development of the Bylis–Klos Park
Work has begun at the Bylis–Klos Archaeological Park on a historic stage of development, with European Union support.
Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja and the EU’s Sofia Moreira de Sousa were present at the start of the civil and conservation works at the Bylis–Klos Archaeological Park.
Gonxhja said the €6.25 million investment is being implemented by AICS in cooperation with the ministry and will help protect the archaeological heritage while contributing to the economic development of the area.
The minister stressed that around €2 million will go to the new multifunctional visitors’ centre, with a museum, research and conservation spaces. Work will also be done on conserving monuments — work already under way on five of them, with 11 archaeologists engaged in the field.
The project aims to bring more opportunities to the community, with 13 certified local guides and €210,000 in grants for 20 beneficiaries. “We preserve Bylis, develop tourism, promote heritage and create more opportunities for Mallakastra,” Minister Gonxhja said.
Ambassador Sofia Moreira said Bylis is one of the sites of special historical and cultural value for Albania and that the European Union is proud to support its restoration. “The history and beauty of Bylis leave a special impression. Today an important project begins, both for the archaeological park and for the surrounding community. With European Union support, the site will be better protected and more accessible to visitors. We believe these interventions will help not only to preserve the heritage, but also to create new opportunities for employment and the development of local tourism,” the EU ambassador stressed.
