Haxhiu: We don’t need a coalition with PDK
Kosovo Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu said on Debat Plus that she sees no need for a coalition with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), stressing that cooperation between the parties is possible on specific issues, but not as part of a governing partnership.
Haxhiu said that a common stance following the September 16 decision does not require the creation of a political coalition.
“To have a unifying stance after September 16, we don’t need a joint coalition. We need joint actions, unity for each action ahead of us, a contribution from each side,” Haxhiu said.
She stressed that she does not see the PDK as a partner for a joint government, clarifying that this is her personal position.
“But I don’t see that we need a coalition with the PDK, not in this period. This is tied to the decision, but also to our stance toward the PDK. We can cooperate in opposing the unjust September 16 decision. But I don’t see them as governing partners. This is my personal position,” the Assembly Speaker said.
Haxhiu also spoke about the election of the president, reiterating her position that the president should not belong to a political party.
“So I’m returning to the position: the president must be a president who should not be in a political party. Even in the situation we are in, that would be best,” she said.
According to Haxhiu, several alternatives for candidates were discussed, including people who have contributed to society and to the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
“We have had several alternatives, names that have contributed in different ways to our society, to the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo. The insistence on having a candidate from their ranks is wrong,” Haxhiu said.
She also mentioned the then Assembly Speaker Glauk Konjufca, saying the parties had been asked to propose names for president.
“Glauk Konjufca said: ‘From LDK and PDK you propose names, we will discuss them, evaluate them and get back to you with an answer.’ There were no such names,” Haxhiu said.
Haxhiu added that if the criterion were people measured in elections through votes, then, in her view, Glauk Konjufca’s result should also be taken into account.
“If we go with people who have been measured in elections, then Glauk Konjufca has over 200,000 votes, I don’t know for sure. If we go with party people, then where do we have Glauk Konjufca?” she said.
