Hoxha in New York: Kosovo’s Adriatic Charter membership bid has been on hold for too long

Albania’s Foreign Minister, Ferit Hoxha, has called for advancing Kosovo’s membership in the Adriatic Charter (A5), saying Kosovo’s bid for membership “has been on hold for too long.”

Hoxha made the statement in a post on the X platform, following the meeting of the Adriatic Charter foreign ministers, organized in New York under Croatia’s chairmanship. “Kosovo’s membership has been on hold for too long. Advancing this matter would strengthen regional cohesion and increase our collective capacity to face common security challenges,” he said.

He emphasized that more than two decades after its creation, the Adriatic Charter remains an important pillar of regional security and Euro-Atlantic cooperation, while security today extends beyond conventional threats.

Among the new challenges, the minister mentioned cyber threats, energy security and foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI). According to him, an open, adaptable, stronger and more inclusive A5 means a safer Western Balkans and remains essential for the common Euro-Atlantic future.
