“It was horrible!” Anne Hathaway apologises after viral red-carpet video
Anne Hathaway has responded after a video from the premiere of “Verity” went viral, showing the actress telling photographers where to point their cameras as she posed on the red carpet.
The 43-year-old discussed the moment on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, admitting the footage now looks as awkward to her as it does to social media users.
“It is something horrible. It is the stuff of nightmares,” Hathaway said as the video was shown on screen.
In the viral footage, the actress was standing between her co-stars Dakota Johnson and Ismaël Cruz Córdova and began telling the photographers in which direction they would pose.
“We will start from the left and then we will move to that side,” she told the photographers, directing them one after another.
Dakota Johnson, 36, reacted with humour, saying: “And then I will leave.”
Watching the video on the show, Hathaway covered her face in embarrassment and explained that at that moment she was simply trying to help.
“I was trying to be helpful. There were a lot of us and the photographers were getting frustrated, while the atmosphere was changing,” the actress said.
Hathaway admitted, however, that as soon as it was all over, her first thought was: “Oh, no!”
“I apologise to everyone. That girl came on stage last night. Actually, she did not come to act. She came to work,” she joked.
The video sparked numerous reactions on social media, where one user jokingly called Hathaway the “traffic policewoman of the red carpet”.
Despite the viral moment, the actress also drew attention with her appearance at the “Verity” premiere, where she wore a strapless black dress by Prabal Gurung, showing off her rounded pregnancy bump.
Hathaway is expecting her third child with her husband Adam Shulman. The couple already have two sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.
