Jusovača in Podgorica becomes a creative hub: reconstruction worth over €3 million, ready in September 2027

The Jusovača complex in Podgorica, the capital’s historic former prison, is being transformed into a creative center. Works on the renovation and restoration of the building have advanced significantly, the Ministry of Public Works announced.

According to the ministry, the parts of the building slated for demolition have been fully removed, while work is currently underway on reinforcing the foundations and the stone walls of the perimeter, preserving the authenticity of the historic monument. A multifunctional pavilion is also being built, which will serve for programs and events.

The plan also includes the renovation of the central plateau, the square and the amphitheater, as well as the creation of dedicated spaces for creative work. The contract deadline for the full completion of the works is September 2027.

Once the reconstruction, worth over €3 million, is completed, Jusovača will be handed over to the Capital City (Glavni grad) for administration and will function as a space for artistic, creative and public programs, said the ministry’s PR officer, Anja Ergić.
