Kolašin: Misdemeanor proceedings against eight people for glorifying Ratko Mladić
KOLAŠIN – The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Kolašin has asked the Misdemeanor Court in Bijelo Polje – Kolašin Unit to open misdemeanor proceedings against eight people, after they put up a banner in the town glorifying convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić, the prosecution announced.
The persons in question are P.A., M.D., M.N., M.D., J.M., V.V., D.D. and B.M., and the offense is being handled under the Law on the Protection of Equality and the Prohibition of Discrimination.
According to the prosecution, on September 3 at around 22:00 in Kolašin, these persons incited hatred and intolerance in the form of nationalism by putting up the banner inscribed “Eternal glory, General! Kolašinians”, dedicated to the former general of the Army of Republika Srpska, Ratko Mladić, finally convicted by the International Residual Mechanism for crimes against the non-Serb population.
The announcement of the proceedings comes at a time of tension in Montenegro’s public debate over the glorification of convicted war criminals, following recent weeks’ controversies over the burial and public honors for Mladić.
