Konjufca after the Hague verdict: A terrible trial for Kosovo, great damage to the state
Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Glauk Konjufca, reacted after the verdict was announced against the former KLA leaders in The Hague. Konjufca was present at the Specialist Chambers during the reading of the verdict.
Speaking outside the court building, Konjufca described the verdict as unjust and undeserved.
“A terrible trial for Kosovo, for our liberation war. Kosovo itself experienced the war, we know what the KLA war was and we know that there was no criminal mechanism to harm any population. It is a sad, unjust, undeserved verdict,” Konjufca stated.
He said that the verdict, in his view, would have major consequences for Kosovo’s narrative and its statehood.
“Truly, it is something that will cause very great damage, both to our narrative and to the state of Kosovo,” he said.
Konjufca also criticized the fact that, according to him, the indictment was also based on materials coming from Serbia, calling the fairness of the verdict into question.
“When I remember that Serbs, who were sentenced to 15 years in absentia, had the indictment, and this court supposedly in the name of the people with these draconian sentences,” Konjufca stated.
Today’s verdict sentenced Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years in prison each, Kadri Veseli to 18 years and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years. (via Telegrafi)
