Kosovo Genocide Center welcomes parliament’s declaration on Specialist Chambers verdict

The “Genocide in Kosovo – Open Wound” center has welcomed the adoption, with 99 votes, of the Kosovo Assembly’s declaration on the Specialist Chambers’ verdict against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, Telegrafi reports. The declaration was adopted on Monday, September 28, with 99 votes in favor and none against or abstaining.

In its reaction, the center praised the consensus reached among lawmakers and the Assembly’s stance on the Kosovo Liberation Army’s war and the first-instance verdict of September 16.

“We were pleased that through the September 28, 2026 declaration, lawmakers took a clear stance and stressed that no verdict can undo the historical truth of the war in Kosovo,” the center’s reaction reads.

According to the center, through the declaration lawmakers expressed their opposition to the court’s conclusion regarding the existence of a joint criminal enterprise.

In the adopted declaration, the Assembly expressed concern over the first-instance verdict, opposed that conclusion, and called on state institutions to take legal, institutional and diplomatic action to defend what the declaration describes as the historical truth about the Kosovo war.

The “Genocide in Kosovo – Open Wound” center called for institutional coordination, expressing confidence that only through a joint approach can the demands set out in the Assembly’s declaration be realized.

According to the reaction, institutions should draft a joint state strategy within which legal, institutional and diplomatic actions would be coordinated.

Finally, the center also stated its position on the future of the Specialist Chambers and the persons held in detention or serving sentences in The Hague.

“We are confident that the professional fulfillment of the aforementioned demands will lead to a just decision: the dismantling of the Specialist Chambers and the release of the hostages held in the Scheveningen prison in The Hague,” the reaction reads.
