Kristaps Porziņģis sidelined indefinitely as Warriors give updates on Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody
Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said Kristaps Porziņģis will be out indefinitely at the start of training camp due to a health issue. Dunleavy added he is not automatically ruling him out for the season opener, but the player will not be available this week.
As Bleacher Report reports, the team will open training camp in Hawai’i and play its first preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers in Honolulu on October 4; according to reports, Porziņģis will not travel with the squad and will miss at least the first four practice sessions and the preseason opener. Golden State acquired Porziņģis from the Atlanta Hawks at last season’s trade deadline; he played only 15 regular-season games for the Warriors due to recurring health problems and has missed 90 games in total over the past two seasons. Despite the injury history, the club extended his contract this summer for two years worth $40 million.
Dunleavy also gave an update on Jimmy Butler III’s recovery from a ruptured knee ligament, saying he and the injured Moses Moody have progressed to very light on-court activities. The general manager stressed that Porziņģis’s latest health setback appeared suddenly, but the team is confident it should not necessarily affect his chances of returning during the season — adding they feel comfortable with the current information and do not want to react hastily.
According to Bleacher Report, the club will closely monitor the progress of practices and provide further updates as the early sessions advance.
