LeBron James wears the 76ers jersey, praises Joel Embiid and talks about his new role
LeBron James appeared in the new No. 23 jersey at Philadelphia 76ers media day and spoke highly of center Joel Embiid, calling him one of the most talented players in basketball. He stressed that for Embiid the main focus remains health, and that he worked hard over the off-season to improve physically, in his game and mentally.
As Bleacher Report reports, James said that in his first season with the Sixers he will do “whatever they need” from him, since he believes his game allows him to perform many different roles on the court. He joined a team expected to be among the title favorites, with key teammates Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown, who arrived from the Boston Celtics this summer. Philadelphia also has a new offensive voice, VJ Edgecombe, who made last season’s All-Rookie team.
During an episode of his “Mind the Game” podcast, James said that the desire to help Embiid achieve playoff success was one of the main reasons for choosing the Sixers. He noted that, despite Embiid’s dominance at his position, the desire to win a championship remains unfulfilled in his career due to injuries and other obstacles.
LeBron also expressed determination to bring the title to Philadelphia, saying he didn’t leave his family to lose in the second round and that it will take time and dedication to adjust to his new teammates. He said he chose the Sixers over four other teams he considered in free agency and that for him achieving something special requires patience and daily work, according to Bleacher Report.
